Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television journalist, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in 1967. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located situated in Washington DC. After two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington reporter. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the principal journalist for Congress. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and participated as an expert panelist on the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell participated on a panel during the debate in 1988 among George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in The John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her role in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to cover White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure in office from 1981 to 1988. She covered many notable issues, such as the arms control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of the President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
